Why Does My Dog Drink More Water on Cold-Pressed Food?
29 . October .2026
It’s very normal for your dog to drink a little more than usual when switching to cold-pressed food. This happens because cold-pressed recipes are more concentrated and contain less moisture than raw or wet diets. If your pup seems thirstier, it’s usually just their body adjusting to the lower water content in their meals.
However, if you notice your dog is drinking excessively and having looser or more frequent poos, it could be a sign of overeating. Cold-pressed food is nutrient-dense, allowing you to feed smaller portions less often. If you’re used to feeding traditional kibble, wet, or raw diets, it’s easy to overestimate portion sizes, which can contribute to increased thirst.
Like all foods, our recipes contain naturally occurring salts. We carefully monitor salt levels in each recipe, but as with all diets, overeating can lead to consuming more salt than needed, which may make your dog drink more.
To help your dog adjust, always follow our feeding guidelines to ensure portion sizes are just right. Provide constant access to fresh, clean water. For sensitive dogs or puppies, try mixing a little warm water or broth into their meals to make the transition easier.
If you have any concerns, our fabulous team is always happy to chat and can recommend alternative recipes that may work better for your pup if needed.
Why does cold-pressed food increase thirst?
Traditional wet foods can contain 75-80% water. Cold-pressed kibble has far less, so dogs instinctively drink more to keep themselves hydrated.
When should I be concerned?
Excessive drinking paired with looser or more frequent stools may indicate your dog is eating too much.
