Advice on canine care

There are many reasons why dogs develop skin irritations or skin problems, one being the lack of a good quality diet. All dogs need a healthy, balanced diet and dry, flaky skin can be a sign your dog is not gaining essential nutrients. Cobbydog provides your dog with a balanced, nutritious diet. Everything your dog requires for a healthy skin, coat and tip top immune system.

Another reason your dog may have itchy skin is due to an allergy to parasites like fleas. Dogs can be very sensitives to flea saliva and once bitten they can become very itchy. It's recommended to keep up to date with flea prevention products and to treat pet bedding and areas where your dogs spends time too.

Skin problems may also be a sign of other underlying health issues and it's always best to seek the advice of your vet.

Allergies to food

Like humans, some dogs can develop allergies or can become sensitive to certain ingredients in their diet e.g. dairy, wheat, chicken.
Such allergies usually present themselves as skin irritations or an upset bowel. If you suspect that your dog is allergic to an ingredient in their food do consult your vet as they are sure to be able to help.

Do not give up hope as we have many good quality dog foods available, which are less likely to trigger allergies in our healthy canine friends.

Obesity in dogs

Obesity in dogs is a major health concern and can lead to very serious health problems. Dogs come in different shapes and sizes and it's important to know your dogs ideal weight for their size and breed.

To ensure you keep your dog healthy, try to substitute dog treats with lots of love and attention. It's best to avoid giving your dog human food as treats as they may not contain the nutrition your dog needs.

Try to keep exercise fun! You could start by taking longer walks or adding extra play time. Most dogs love to play fetch with different toys. Taking your dog swimming is another great way to add in some extra exercise.

Plenty of exercise, combined with complete, balanced nutrition, is the key to a healthy dog.

Underweight or under-feeding?

This is a difficult question as there is no “one size fits all” answer for a healthy canine. However, we do have a feeding guide which can give you an approximate amount to ensure your dog is fed correctly. Symptoms of under-feeding can result in obvious weight loss, lack of energy and a susceptibility to ailments. Dogs must be provided with the nutrition they need and this comes from a good diet and nutritious dog food. Please consult a vet if you suspect your dog could be underweight.
